 Is this Britain's sexiest address?

Thursday, January 10, 2002

According to the rumours, walls have ears, but there are certain walls that probably wish that they had eyes as well. That is certainly the case for one property, currently being dubbed as 'Britain's sexiest house', which over the years has witnessed a whole catalogue of sexual shenanigans carry on inside its four walls.

The house in question is at 46 Clapham Common North Side, a Grade II listed Victorian mansion stretched over seven floors, complete with a 50 foot garden and a swimming pool - recently put on the market at a cool £3.5 million.

The pad first sprung to notoriety after it was bought by photographer Michael Joseph, who lived in the property for nearly 20 years after paying £60,000 for it in 1979. During his stay, all sorts of goings on took place:

  • Kylie Minogue shot a pop video in the swimming pool.
  • Jerry Hall was filmed a raunchy soap commercial in the bathroom.
  • The Joy of Sex video was shot in the ballroom, penthouse and bathroom.
  • Ann Summers erotic lingerie catalogue was photographed in the lift.
  • The photographs for the orgy scene from The Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet album cover were shot in the house.
  • It was also the setting for an orgy scene from a French theatrical version of Spartacus.

Michael Joseph said unequivocally of the house: "It's probably the sexiest address in town." Oh to have been a fly on that particular wall…
