England's World Cup win against Argentina took the heat out of the property market - but only very briefly! According to reports, Fish4Homes say they saw a massive 80% dip in property searches recorded by the property portal at lunch time on 7th June.
Fish4homes CEO, Jonathan Turpin said: "Friday is usually our busiest day with home buyers checking out new properties for sale before arranging viewings over the weekend. We would expect to see a peak in activity during a Friday lunch break, as many buyers tend to house hunt online from work."
Friday morning had above average home search activity in the property market but as soon as England kicked off at 12.30, house-hunting activity on Fish4 plummeted by 80% as homebuyers focused their attention on the World Cup.
Realising it was going to be a record slow day for the property market, many of the 5000 estate agents who supply Fish4 with properties closed shop and watched the game themselves.
"England's win resulted in less house hunting activity than would be expected on Christmas Day. I guess everyone's Christmas came early with David Beckham's goal - so finding your new home can wait until after the celebrations," Turpin concluded.
