You may not be in the fortunate position of having a Premier league footballer for a father, but according to cahoot, Abbey National's online bank, all Dads are worth more than we think.
Has your Dad ever chauffeured you around, baby sat, put up shelves and fixed a leaking tap? All these chores would cost money if someone else did them, but the chances are your dad does them for nothing more than a pair of socks and a Father's Day card.
Research from cahoot shows the equivalent cost of these daily chores could potentially add up to £898 per week, or £3,592 every month. This includes the many unpaid roles a father plays, from baby-sitter to entertainer to mechanic, electrician and plumber.
Whilst the emotional value of a Dad is irreplaceable, the savings Dads can make through their help around the house is greater than you might imagine, especially in the London area and the south east where Dads can save their children hundreds of pounds a month in chores (up to £898.70), while Dads in the Midlands save their offspring £517.25 a month. Helpful fathers in the north east cut bills down by £546.90, while north west families pocket £649.50 from chores done by the Dad of the family.
Deborah Cutler, Head of Brand Marketing and Acquisition at cahoot says: "As well as giving us love and support, our research clearly shows how Dads can be an invaluable and under-appreciated asset, saving us thousands of pounds a year. Despite this, Mother's Day always seems to be remembered more than Father's Day, and to redress the balance we've calculated how much our Dads save us in time, trouble and serious amounts of cash.
"If people are looking for a way to benefit from the money their fathers are saving them on household bills and Dad-type jobs, cahoot's savings and investment accounts, and current account at 4.1% AER, pay excellent yearly interest which will reap enough cash just in time for a well-earned Father's Day pressie."
