Stars hold key to home insurance claims

Friday, June 28, 2002

New figures from the Halifax show that the star sign under which someone is born determines who is most and least likely to have household insurance, and claim on it.

Out of the twelve signs of the zodiac those born under Aries are most likely to insure their home and belongings, whereas the most likely to be stung by an uninsured loss are scorpions.

But it's cancerians who are most likely to make a claim - the homemaker and water sign topped storm damage claims last year.

Sagittarians, a fire sign, are ironically least likely to claim and suffer less than any other sign of the zodiac from fire damage.

Virgos, an earth sign, are the unluckiest star sign claiming the most for theft, accidental breakages and, uncannily, subsidence.

Aquarians top the list as the most likely to damage their property and belongings accidentally while Piscerians are the most careless with their TV's and computer equipment.

Geminis seem to be in two minds about where they live with the highest number of claims for damage to locks and lost keys.

And Scorpions prove that while they are least likely to have insurance they also attract the envy of the rest of the zodiac as victims of more malicious damage and vandalism than any other star sign.

Managing director of Halifax General Insurance Howard Posner said: "It so often seems like there are unpredictable forces at work, especially when things go wrong. But this research shows it could be more than just coincidence and some star signs may be more likely to fall victim to particular hazards around the home."
