There’s little doubt ranting Ruby Wax won’t get your best neighbour award when she does her impression of the world's worst neighbour today.
Outspoken Ruby will be doing her impression of the neighbour from hell to launch a campaign emphasising just how much misery those who make a racket cause.
Organisers of the drive Encams (the group who brought you the Keep Britain Tidy campaign) will then gag her – to prove that it is possible to silence the gobs of noisy yobs.
Loud music, screaming children and rowdy, argumentative neighbours are making people's lives a misery, according to Encams.
And many people affected by noisy neighbours have never done anything about the problem because they don’t know what to do or where to turn. Some are simply afraid of being beaten up by their neighbours form hell, or making the situation worse.
Alan Woods, chief executive of Encams, said:
"What we badly need is a discreet and easy way of reporting incidents, so that those who make a noise are properly punished.”
"We also need to lose the attitude that anyone who kicks up a fuss about the problem is some kind of interfering Victor Meldrew type - and start realising that loud noise is a serious issue that causes misery to millions of people."
Some of the noises that annoy:
- TV sets with the volume turned up too high.
- Barking dogs.
- Fireworks.
- DIY enthusiasts.
- Car alarms.
- Noisy sex.
- Loud music.
- Argumentative neighbours.
- Noisy cars and motorbikes.
Ruby Wax is to be joined in this outrageous exhibition of irritating sounds by a barking rottweiller and look-a-likes of Posh and Becks – having noisy sex!
But while the tone of the launch is meant to be humorous, its message is deadly serious because people all over the country are being subjected to the torture of neighbourhood noise.
In fact at the launch, ENCAMS will reveal the results of a survey into which sounds annoy them most, at what time of day noise drives them crazy, what they think of noisy neighbours and what if anything, they are prepared to do to shut them up.
Also on hand will be an adult psychologist who will explain the very real mental torture noise sufferers endure as well as written case studies highlighting some of the more extreme examples.
