A woman is charging people £1 a time in a chance to win her home and says the odds are much better than winning the National Lottery.
Joan Miller’s four bedroom family home, worth £180,000 is up for grabs in a competition where for the princely sum of one pound, entrants can think up a slogan for her web site, www.houseforapound.com. to win her home.
The house, which is in Swindon is located just 10 minutes from the M4 is listed on the website. The house has been valued at £180,000 has a fully fitted kitchen diner, a modern bathroom and a cloakroom. There's an approx 60 ft garden and a nice garage to boot.
The property will be listed on the web site for eight weeks, and people can enter the competition as many times as they want, paying £1 each time.
“We think this is a new and innovative way of selling ones house,” says Joan on her website, “With the market prices so high its almost impossible for those trying to get a foot hold on the property ladder. It would be nice for someone to just win it and the odds are so much better than the lottery. Just think how nice it would be to win a house, just like that, for a price of a £1 entry.”
The website is going to be used for other houses too. Each property will be marketed on the website for just 8 weeks. After that time a slogan competition will determine the winner. If the reserve price is not met then the winner gets the pot of cash raised minus a 20% handling fee. If the reserve price is met the winner gets the house.
Joan Miller’s house is first up and all you have to do is think of an advertising slogan for Houseforapound.com in 25 words or less. The reserve price for her £180,000 house is £270,000.
