 Dome development gets go ahead

Thursday, February 26, 2004

The Greenwich peninsula is going to get more than 10,000 brand new homes, under a plan that has now been given clearance by the local council.

This week, the London Borough of Greenwich has given the go-ahead to Meridian Delta Limited for the redevelopment of the site around the Millennium Dome. Plans include the construction of more than 10,000 new homes, large amounts of commercial and retail space and a 20,000-seat entertainment and sports arena. The scheme also involves the provision of new schools, transport improvements, a new hotel and parkland.

Meridian Delta is a joint venture between Quintain and Lend Lease, who have secured agreement for the scheme. Work should begin on the 190 acre site late this year. Furthermore, more than half a million square feet of leisure and entertainment space will be provided by Anschutz Entertainment Group within the structure of the Millennium Dome.

Nick Shattock, Quintain's property director, said: “The creation of a new town on the Greenwich peninsula is a great responsibility and the receipt of this permission is testament to the efforts of everyone involved.”
