Timeshare in the UK is moving upmarket with hotels offering the well-heeled exclusive deals on new developments. One of these new types of upmarket timeshare is offering complete homes on a share basis renamed 'seasonal ownership'.
The Gleneagles Hotel is a complex of houses situated around a lake near the famous golf course. Fifty new homes have been built at Glenmor, within the 850-acre Gleneagles Hotel estate.
The range of 2,3 or 4-bedroom homes are not bought outright, but in 7 or 28 night tenures for example. One week's residency until 2058 start from £9,900 for a two-bedroom house to £46,000 for four bedrooms. The annual service charge is £1,050.
The houses here are upside-down with high gabled living rooms upstairs and balconies to take in the views. The homes are complete with state of the art kitchens but meals can also be taken at the Michelin-starred Gleneagles where dining is an art form. Oh, and of course, the seasonal ownership includes privileged golfing on the championship greens with use of the club and spar.
Another example of exclusive timeshare – ops! Sorry, seasonal ownership, is the new venture by the Marriot Group in the heart of London’s Mayfair. 47 Park Street was built in 1926 as a private residence for the 1st baron Milford. The building, which then became an hotel has now been converted by Marriot into a seasonal ownership scheme.
47 Park Street is not a holiday destination but 49 luxurious residences that can be bought for three weeks per year until 2050 for £110,000-£160,000, with an annual fee of £3,967.
It is the second property to be developed by Marriot Grand Residence Club, which successfully started the concept in Lake Tahoe, California.
