Rich people are getting richer and are attracted to unspoilt rural areas, a new survey indicates. According to the survey by Barclays Financial Planning, five of the UK’s fastest growing wealth hotspots are now outside London and the South East.
The study, which looked at people earning over £60,000 a year found that the top five constituencies by rate of growth were High Peak in Derbyshire, Monmouth in south Wales, north Cardiff, Withington in Manchester, Keighley in West Yorkshire.
Overall, 29 areas in England and Wales have more than one in 10 people earning over £60,000 a year, compared to only eight in 2003.
However, the top constituencies by proportion of population in top bracket remain in London, with Kensington and Chelsea topping the list with 16.6%.
It is South Yorkshire's Sheffield Hallam, that holds the position of the highest ranking area outside London for overall wealth, the proportion stands at almost 12%.
