Is it practical sell a house on eBay? It appears it’s not the best place. One woman last weekend failed to sell her property this way and it looks like she’s not going to be the only one to be disappointed, judging by the paucity of bids on other properties on the auction website this morning.
For a start, an internet auction website not exactly the place one goes to look for a property. But people do try to sell their houses this way. This morning there were 11 properties up for auction, most with just a few days left to run.
However of the 11, only two had bids placed, and neither had reached the reserve or starting bid which was placed by the owner.
Of course the good old estate agent will have guided his conventional customers as to price and there is always the temptation when going it alone to price upwards. So there may not be a bargain offered.
Ms Marsden of Felixstowe, Suffolk reached her end of auction deadline at the weekend having received only two low offers for the house. However, she has not yet given up hope of selling the house on eBay and is putting the property back on the internet at starting price of £175,000. Ms Marsden maintains that with over 1500 viewers last time, she might just find the right buyer this time.
However, a virtual viewer on the internet is no substitute for a real live viewer that has taken the trouble to get off his backside and visit in person.
