 Buy-to-let confidence high

Friday, January 28, 2005

Despite the current cooling market, a new survey commissioned by The Homebuyer Show reveals that over 70% of professional investors are still relying on buy-to-let property for their future wealth.

The survey also revealed that over a third of respondents think the buy-to-let market will remain stable over the next 12 months, and 28% believe there will be a moderate rise.

With the threat of pension shortfalls worrying the nation, investing in property is seen as additional security for the future. As potential buyers stay out of the market in anticipation of further price falls, rental yields are increasing as investors can achieve significant reductions on asking prices.

Nick Clark, Managing Director of Homebuyer Events, organisers of the show comments: “With the housing market slowing down buy-to-let is becoming an increasingly attractive investment option. Now is a good time to invest in property as interest rates are widely believed to have reached their peak and vendors are more realistic when setting asking prices, which means higher rental yields are achievable."

“Our research shows that serious property investors in the UK own an average of six homes, and over 77% of these are planning to buy more in the next 12 months. So all the signs are there for a promising investment!”

Lee Grandin, Managing Director of Landlord Mortgages, one of the exhibitors at the show, comments. “Buy-to-let is not a game for speculators but a viable choice for people looking for a haven for their retirement fund."

"We anticipate that especially with A-Day in April 2006, when investors will be able to buy residential property with a personal pension making it free from tax on rental income and capital gains, buy to let will become a much more common retirement planning choice.”
