With reports that Britney Spears’ new baby is called Preston Michael or Sean Preston, how successfully have celebrities picked property hot-spots when naming their children?
Propertyfinder.com has investigated the property performance of favourite celebrity babies. Posh and Britney’s singing careers may have stumbled in recent years, but Posh certainly had an eye for a hit with her choice of name. If Posh had invested in Brooklyn property when her first son was born, she could have reaped a healthy 200% return, a cool 18.4% per annum.
Will Britney be able to say the same about Preston? Preston house prices have risen 8.7% over the last year (Land Registry figures). However, according to propertyfinder.com’s recent survey of househunters, house prices in the region will rise a meagre 1.5% over the next twelve months. If Britney had plumped for London, as early rumourmongers mischievously suggested, she would have been in for a mere 1.3% return, according to propertyfinder.com’s survey.
The Clinton’s came second, astutely picking Chelsea, the upmarket London district, as house prices there have risen 8.6% per annum since their daughter was born and Prince Harry did quite well with his girlfriend Chelsey as prices in the same area are up 7.6% per annum since she was born.
Jade Jagger, despite her good taste at picking Assisi in the Umbria region of Italy, clearly does not have an eye for overseas property investment. Prices there are up just 4.4% per annum since her daughter was born, so Jade and Assisi come bottom of the league. Nicholas Leeming, director of propertyfinder.com commented: ‘People laughed when Posh and Becks picked Brooklyn, but in property terms, it’s done really well. Preston might be more of a challenge for Britney! The Scottish property market is still performing best in the UK though, so perhaps Penny Lancaster and Rod Stewart will plump for Dundee when their baby is born.’
