The site owners St Modwen have submitted a planning application to the council which will transform the huge brownfield site and will shape the city’s future growth and expansion.

The plans include provision for:

• 4,000 new homes that could be phased over the next 20 years
• 100 acres of new employment space
• A series of lakes, green corridors and park area -including planting of new trees and flora
• A district centre with multipurpose community facilities
• Educational facilities- including two new primary schools
• Public open space - including sports fields and play areas.

The construction and on site employment space will generate approximately 6,000 new jobs - nearly as many as the steelworks in its heyday. The site is so large that it covers an area spanning from Town Bridge to Pillgwenlly.

As well as 100 acres of new employment space the 4,000 new homes will provide a complete range of new homes from apartments through to large detached keynote homes, catering for all sectors of the population.

These homes would sit in a series of new neighbourhoods and smaller hamlets all within walking distance of local facilities with a bus link connecting the site to the City Centre.

At the heart of the new development are three interconnected lakes and a substantial park area. A network of greenways will connect this central park to the new neighbourhoods.
