The Environment Agency is currently looking for people from all backgrounds and walks of life to join their Regional Advisory Committees throughout England and Wales from the north east down to the south west.
If you've ever been frustrated at the quality of your local environment, then this is your chance to help make things better.
Meeting four times a year, members bring a wide range of ideas to the table, helping to shape the Environment Agency’s policies. They will also have a role in providing suggestions and advice on how these polices will work in practice to ensure the environment is protected and improved in local communities.
The Environment Agency is looking for new members to join one of two committees:
1. The Regional Environment Protection Advisory Committee (REPAC) which focuses on how the Environment Agency protects the environment. Committee members will have an important role in looking at how well the Environment Agency is doing, the direction in which it should be going and what its priorities should be.
2. The waterways of England and Wales are a crucial resource where many people live work and play. The Regional Fisheries, Ecology & Recreation Advisory Committee (RFERAC) looks at how fisheries can be improved and developed including ecology, recreation and river navigation. Members of this committee will have an important role in conserving and improving this vital part of our environment.
The Environment Agency wants committee members to act as:
1. Advisors - to provide informed advice, from those that are regulated and from independent experts
2. Networkers - to help the Environment Agency form new partnerships and influence the agendas of others
3. Critical friends - to constructively challenge the Environment Agency’s approach and monitor and advise on its achievements For more information, please contact Bryan Rayner at the Environment Agency by telephone on 020 7863 8723 or by writing to Bryan at: Environment Agency, Millbank Tower, 25th Floor, 21 - 24 Millbank, London SW1P 4XL.
