BoE: UK economy ‘roughly on track’

An interest rate cut next month seems more and more unlikely after the publication of the last set of Bank of England minutes…

Members voted 7-2 in favour of keeping rates on hold at 5.25% at their meeting earlier this month, and the minutes show that the main priority of the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is keeping inflation under control.

According to the minutes, indicators pointed to "less of a slowdown than expected" and inflation is 'expected to rise over the next few months as higher energy bills take their toll'.

The minutes also revealed that the MPC believe that inflation and the UK economy are ‘roughly on track’ and that a further reduction now would ‘send out the wrong signal’.
